Foundation Lotti Latrous, Ivory Coast

In 1999, the Swiss Lotti Latrous, founded the relief organisation “Centre d’Espoir” for the poorest of the poor in the slums of Abidjan (Ivory Coast). It comprises an outpatient clinic, a hospice for the terminally ill and an orphanage for AIDS orphans who themselves are HIV-infected. In the outpatient clinic 15’000 consultations are conducted every year. Furthermore, the “Centre d’Espoir” offers emergency relief to completely destitute families. Today, up to 25’000 cases are attended to annually in its social office. Among others, the help consists of paying for school fees or rents, granting of micro-loans to penniless women, running malnutrition programs and providing free drinking water.
